Now we’re not talking about the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show which is going on right now in New York City. BTW, make sure to check out the beautiful Rottweiler that won ‘Best of Breed’. We’re talking about a Dawg of the Georgia Bulldog variety which we hope will provide us with a nice college basketball betting opportunity.
One of the best strategies for successful college hoops handicapping is to find competitive underdogs in conference play. The more competitive the conference, the more effective the strategy. If you can find a competitive dog in a good situation its basically money in the bank and hopefully that’s what we have tonight.
GEORGIA BULLDOGS VS. TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS:
Georgia is a team that the casual college hoops fan and general wagering public has left for dead a long time ago and admittedly on the surface they don’t look like much. The Dawgs are 11-12 overall and are dead last in the SEC East with a 3-7 conference record. Tennessee, meanwhile, has a glossy 18-6 overall record and are 6-4 in the SEC. But as is so often the case, initial perceptions can be deceiving. One of these two teams has been a money burner for the sports betting enthusiast while one of them has been a very profitable investment and even more so in specific situations. Guess which is which?
If you answered that Tennessee was the bad pointspread investment you are correct–go to the head of the class. Oh, I forgot….this is the *SEC*. No one worries about things like ‘classes’. Anyway, Tennessee is 9-12 ATS this year. They’re 7-9 ATS as a favorite and a woeful 3-7 ATS against conference opponents. Georgia, on the other hand, may not win a lot of games outright but its not from a lack of competitive effort. The Dawgs are 12-9 ATS and 8-5 ATS as an underdog. They’re 0-9 SU on the road this year but here’s the fun part–they’re an impressive 7-3 ATS against conference opponents and 10-4 ATS against teams with winning records. That’s a live dog (no pun intended) that comes to play even against superior competition. Dawgs beat Tennessee by 15 at home in late January and before you start getting all excited about a ‘revenge spot’ note that Georgia is 1-2 ATS when trying to avenge a road defeat.
The Vols have only gotten in the money in 2 of their L9 games while Georgia has cashed bettors’ tickets in 8 of 11. And getting a ton of points that’s exactly how we’ll play it.
