No matter what they do, no matter what moves they make for the future, the Los Angeles Clippers seem destined to fail every single season.
This season the Clippers came into the year with some high hopes as they had just drafted arguably the best player in the NBA draft in forward Blake Griffin from the Oklahoma Sooners, but those hopes have gone down the drain for the Clippers as they have just learned that the rookie forward will have season ending surgery on his left kneecap that he injured in preseason.
During his short stay with the Sooners, Blake Griffin displayed some amazing athletic ability, only rivaled by LeBron James in my opinion, as he was arguably one of the best players in college basketball. Griffin has been described as a Tim Duncan like forward, with his dominance in the post, but with the high flying athletic ability that had him in the highlight reels on a nightly basis. In his last year with the Sooners, before being drafted by the Clippers, Griffin won the college player of the year with 22.7 points and nation leading 14.4 rebounds per game.
For the Clippers, Blake Griffin seemed to be the missing piece to the puzzle as they already had a talented group of players lead by point guard Baron Davis who has been dying to get an athletic forward like Griffin in the offense. With Griffin, Chris Kaman, Eric Gordon and Baron Davis the Clippers were sure to make a run for the playoffs, but with Griffin’s preseason injury the Clippers were in for another long season of disappoint.
Fortunately, even without Griffin in the frontcourt, the Clippers have been playing very well as of late with wins over teams like the Boston Celtics, Portland Trailblazers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. The Clippers are still under .500 right now with a 17-19 record, but with the way they have playing it seems as though the team is starting to come together and if they keep it up with Baron Davis playing at a high level, I believe the Clippers could end up being a playoff team at season’s end.
