Chicago White Sox (59-45) @ Detroit Tigers (52-52)

Date: Tuesday August 3rd, 2010

Time: 1:05 pm EST

Preview: The Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers will start a three game series on Tuesday afternoon at Comerica Park in Detroit. The White Sox come into the series with a very slim ½ game lead over the Minnesota Twins atop the American League Central division. Chicago has surged to 14 games over .500 with their timely hitting and lights out pitching. The offense has been led by Alex Rios and Paul Konerko. Rios is batting .300, while Konerko has blasted 25 homeruns and knocked in 72 runs. The White Sox are 10th in all of baseball with a .262 batting average, and 7th in homeruns with 118. The pitching also ranks 10th with an earned run average of 3.90, led by starting pitcher John Danks, and his 3.40. Freddie Garcia will get the start on Tuesday. The 34 year old veteran from Venezuela is 10-4 on the season with a 4.73 earned run average. In his career he holds a 131-85 record. Garcia’s last start was against Seattle, where he went six innings, allowed 7 hits and 3 runs in a 10-4 win over the Mariners.

Detroit will send Jeremy BondermanWhi to the hill. Bonderman is 5-6 on the season with a 5.05. The 27 year old from Washington has a 64-73 career major league record in 182 starts. He is coming off a no decision against Toronto where he went 5.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs in a game the Tigers beat the Blue Jays 6-5. Detroit is marred in a terrible slump that has seen them fall to third place; 7 games back of the White Sox. Detroit lost Sunday afternoon’s game to Boston on an error, after scoring 3 in the top of the ninth to tie the game. Miguel Cabrera has been the Tigers lone consistent hitter, batting .351 with 26 homeruns and 93 runs batted in.

My MLB betting prediction: Detroit loves playing at home. Tigers win 6-1.
