Freddie Ljunberg proved to be the star on Wednesday night as his new team, the Chicago Fire rout a “hot” San Jose side. The Swede had a part in every goal in the 3-0 victory. He assisted on Steven Kinney’s opening goal in the 39th minute and scored one for himself in the 79th. He also had an assist on Patrick Nyarko’s goal in the 90th minute. This is the first star performance that Freddie has had since joining the Fire.
On the other side of the game, San Jose came out and had a dismal performance in a part of the season where they really need to pull everything together and be clicking on all cylinders. The loss snaps a 4 game unbeaten streak and what speaks more volume is the fact that not only did they allow 3 goals, they failed to net even one. They did attack efficiently having 13 shots, 8 of which were on target. But the Fire came out and had a total of 8 shots, 7 of which were on target.
The Fire were not playing like a team that seemed done and dusted last week, but unfortunately for them it may be too little too late.
