Preview: The Chicago cross town rivalry will take it’s turn in the South Side on Friday afternoon, as the Chicago Cubs take on the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The Cubs come in 31-40 overall, and are nine games out of first place; tied in third with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs rank 16th in all of baseball with a .259 batting average, and 12th in earned run average, with a 3.97. Marlon Byrd, in his first season as a Cub is leading the squad with a .326 batting average, along with 40 runs scored. The Cubs will send Carlos Zambrano to the mound in this affair. Zambrano has struggled must of the season; with a 3-5 record and a 5.10 earned run average. He is coming off his best start of the season, going 7 innings, and allowing just a single run in the win over the Angels. The White Sox have been the hottest team in baseball, winning 8 straight games, and nine of their last 10. They have moved to two games above .500, and just 3.5 games out of first place in the American League Central.

The White Sox have used hot hitting from Alex Rios, who leads the team with a .313 batting average, along with Paul Konerko’s 17 homeruns and 52 runs batted in. The White Sox will send former National League All Star starting pitcher Jake Peavy to the mound. Peavy is 6-5 on the season, with an earned run average at 5.07. The Cubs are 13-22 on the road, while the White Sox have won 17 of 35 at home. The White Sox won two of three earlier in June at Wrigley Field.
