The top two teams in Group F of the Champions League will meet at Stamford Bridge in London on Nov. 3rd as English Premier League leaders Chelsea will take on Spartak Moscow of the Russian league. Chelsea beat Spartak 2-0 away in Moscow two weeks ago so should be going into this match with quite a bit of confidence.
Chelsea should even be stronger in this match as last year’s leading scorer Didier Drogba should be back in the line-up. If he teams up with fellow striker Nicolas Anelka the attack should be quite strong. Chelsea should be looking to add three more points to their group-leading nine and keep their 100 per cent record intact. A win here should guarantee qualification into the next round.
Spartak are on an unbeaten streak since losing to Chelsea two weeks ago and sit second in the group with six points. Manager Valeri Karpin said his team was scared of Chelsea in their last game and gave them way too much too much respect. He’s hoping his team can attack and keep the English side under pressure.
Chelsea will be without midfielder Frank Lampard due to a groin injury and it looks like Ramires, Yossi Benayoun, and Florent Malouda will also miss the match. Defender Alex missed the first game against Spartak, but could be back in the squad.
Spartak will be without striker Ari with a thigh injury and Sergei Parshivlyuk will probably be missing. We might see 18-year old left-back Anton Khodyrev get in the game. Captain Alex could be ready to play after missing the game against Chelsea two weeks ago.
Chelsea vs Spartak Moscow Betting Odds and Prediction
This isn’t a must-game for Chelsea so they should be playing with a relaxed attitude which could prove deadly for Spartak. The Russians had a big advantage against Chelsea two weeks ago when they played them at home on their artificial turf pitch, so things don’t look too good for them here. Hopefully they’ll try to attack Chelsea, but I see this game going the same way as it did in Moscow with Chelsea coming out on top by a score of 2-0.
Sportsbook William Hill has the odds of a Chelsea win at 1/4 and the odds of a Spartak victory at 11/1. The odds of a draw are 9/2 and the odds of a 2-0 win for Chelsea are 5/1.
