There was a lot of talk about NBA All-Star snubs after the All-Star reserves were announced last week, but have been some injuries that could change both the East and West rosters before they go head to head on Sunday, February 14th at Cowboys Stadium.
This past week New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul went down with a knee injury that will require surgery and keep him out for one to two months, so the NBA had to act quickly and find a replacement for Paul and the Denver Nuggets Chauncey Billups looks like he is the man for the job!
When the All-Star reserves were announced, Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl knew that Carmelo Anthony was going to be a starter in the West, but he wasn’t so happy about his point guard Chauncey Billups getting snubbed in favor of the Utah Jazz’s Deron Williams and New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul.
Even though Williams and Paul definitely deserved to become an All-Star this season, Billups should have gotten some consideration as he is having another great season as the floor general in Denver.
Ironically enough, George Karl was picked as the Western Conference All-Stars head coach so it is no surprise that the first injury replacement was going to be Chauncey Billups.
Along with Chris Paul, there have been some other injuries to All-Stars like the Portland Trailblazers Brandon Roy and the Boston Celtics Paul Pierce which will most likely get replaced if they can’t go on February 14th.
Here are some possible replacements for both the East and West:
East
David Lee, New York Knicks; Antawn Jamison, Washington Wizards; Ray Allen, Boston Celtics; Joakim Noah, Chicago Bulls; Josh Smith, Atlanta Hawks; Andre Igoudala, Philadelphia 76ers
West
Chris Kaman, Los Angeles Clippers; Carlos Boozer, Utah Jazz; Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies; Andrew Bynum, Los Angeles Lakers; Nene, Denver Nuggets
With a strong possibility of more injuries happening between now and February 14th, I won’t be surprised to see some of these players getting the call to be an All-Star replacement.
