CFL Week 7 – B.C. Lions vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders Lines & Picks

B.C. Lions (1-5) will need to mustard up their best performance of the season if they want to hang with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-2) on Thursday night in Regina. The Lions have now lost 5 straight games after winning their first game of the season in week 1. The Roughriders have been having a solid season, but they need to bounce back with a win after losing last week against the Alouettes in Montreal.

Once Casey Printers went down with an injury early in the season Travis Lulay took over the reigns at QB. Lulay hasn’t done a terrible job, as he’s completed 66 out of 109 passes for 820 yards, but his TD (1) to INT (5) ratio is horrible. Last week 3rd string QB Jarious Jackson came into the game and went 8 for 17 with 99 yards and 1 INT. Jackson has been given the nod this week against the Roughriders and based on how he plays he could become the new starting QB.

The Roughriders made a valiant effort to beat the Alouettes last week, but came up just short with a final score of 30-26. Going into the 4th quarter of the game the Roughriders were down by 11 points and they were only able to close the gap to 4 points before they ran out of time. Durant threw the ball 62 times and ended the game with 35 completions for 445 yards, 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. The running game was nowhere to be found last week and they’ll need Cates to pick it up Thursday night if they expect to win.

If the Lions are going to stand a chance against Saskatchewan they’re going to need to stop the air attack. If Durant puts up close to 400 yards in the air again, the Lions aren’t going to win the game. Last week, Dressler had 13 receptions for 169 yards and Fantuz came up with another big week, as he ended the game with 6 catches for 88 yards. B.C. Lions secondary will have their work cut out for them on Thursday night and it should be interesting to see if they perform up to their ability. The one thing the Lions have been doing well this season is playing defence.

I have a feeling that the switch at the QB position is going to help the Lions keep the game close tomorrow night. Jackson looked impressive during his limited action last week and I can’t wait to see how he does in his first start of the season. The Lions defence has been consistent most of the season. Even though the Lions have lost 5 straight games, most of those games were close right down to the last minute of the game. Saskatchewan is heading home after a rough battle last week against the Alouettes and I can’t see them putting up massive numbers on the Lions. Saskatchewan may win the game, but my money is on the Lions to keep it within 8.5 points.

I’m also going to ride the under in this game with the total at 54 points right now. The under is currently 7-3 the last 10 times that these two teams play against each other. There are also other trends pointing towards the under tomorrow night. Another reason why I’m going with the Lions tomorrow is because they’re 6-2 the last 8 times they’ve played the Roughriders and an even better 5-1 when they play the Roughriders in Regina.
