The Toronto Argonauts (3-1) will travel up the 401 highway for a game in Montreal against the Alouettes (3-1) tonight at 7:30 PM. I have been waiting the entire week for this game and I can’t wait until kick-off. The winner of tonight’s game will take over the sole lead of first place in the East Division and will be looking good for a playoff spot.
In the first couple weeks of the season I wasn’t sure about whether or not the Argonauts were for real this season, but after the past two weeks I’ve made up my mind. The Argonauts won a close battle against the Stampeders in week 3 and another close game this past week against the Lions. In both of these games the Argonauts were trailing the game heading into the 4th quarter, but they showed a lot of heart and got the job done in both situations.
Montreal can always score points, but what they’ve had trouble with at times throughout the season is defence. They lost the first game of the season because of a poor defensive performance, but it looks like they’ve figured out the problem. In the past 2 weeks the Alouettes have only given up 12 points and 14 points. If they continue playing solid defence they aren’t going to have a problem beating any team this year.
In the recent match-ups between these two teams the Alouettes have dominated the Argonauts winning 7 games in a row. The last time the Argonauts beat Montreal was way back in 2007 when they won 16-9 at Molson Stadium. Toronto has struggled the past couple years and now that they seem back on track, it should be interesting to see how they play today.
If Toronto wants any shot at winning tonight in Montreal they’ll need to have another star performance from RB Cory Boyd. Boyd has run for over 100+ yards in the past 3 games and last week he almost broke the 150-yard mark. If Boyd continues rushing for over 100 yards a game it’ll take a lot of pressure off Cleo Lemon and will allow him more time to throw the ball since the defence will need to focus on Boyd.
Odds from SportsInteraction
• Toronto Argonauts vs. Montreal Alouettes –10
• Toronto Argonauts vs. Montreal Alouettes O/U 52.5 Points
Predictions
The Argonauts have not only lost to the Alouettes 7 times in a row, but in the six most recent games they have also lost ATS, which scares me. They haven’t kept the games that close and I think it’s going to be difficult tonight. Toronto is 4-1 ATS in their last five games in July, which is a good sign though. Montreal on the other hand has a stellar record of 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team from the East Division. I really like Toronto tonight to not lose by 10+ points and my money is going to be on them. With all eyes on the Argos tonight, I can see them keeping the game close right down to the wire.
Tonight the over also looks good and I’ll be riding on the over tonight. The Alouettes have kept their opponents to less than 15 points the last two games, but I can’t see that happening again. With Boyd and Lemon both playing well the Argos shouldn’t have a problem putting up 25+ points tonight. The over is also 4-1 in the last 5 games that Montreal has played against the East Division and the Argos have gone over 4 times in a row against teams with a winning record.
