The B.C. Lions (1-3) will travel to Commonwealth Stadium where they’ll match-up against the Edmonton Eskimos (0-4) tonight at 9:00PM EST. Tonight’s match-up will feature the two teams in the basement of the West Division and the Eskimos will still be looking for their first victory of the season. If Edmonton can’t put a win together soon I’m sure we’re going to see a lot of changes coming from upper management.
The Lions haven’t won a game since the first game of the season and that came against the Eskimos. B.C. was on the road just like this week and ended up winning by a score of 25-10. Since the first week of the season, the Lions have had 3 straight losses and will be looking to turn things around this week against the lowly Eskimos. Backup QB Lulay will be getting the start again this week with Printers still out with an injury.
Edmonton has struggled all season long and things aren’t looking good in the city right now. The team has been doing so bad they needed to take some of the week to plead to their fans. With a 0-4 start Eskimo fans are becoming restless and it won’t be long before the fans start demanding changes. One area where the Eskimos need to improve is at the end of the game in the 4th quarter. They’ve been outscored in the 4th quarter by a huge margin this season and a couple of their losses came from losing a lead in the final quarter.
For the Eskimos to win this game tonight they need to have a great game from Ricky Ray. Ray has always been a good QB, but this season he’s been having trouble getting the ball into the endzone. Edmonton hasn’t had much of a problem moving the ball in the air, but they haven’t been able to convert their chances as well as they should be. Whitlock will also need a good game for the Eskimos to have any success tonight. Whitlock ran for over 100 yards in week against the Lions and he’s yet to pass the 100+ yard rushing mark again this season.
The Lions have started off the season terribly and I’m sure nobody in B.C. thought things would get this bad. QB Printers is injured and may miss the season, which means Lulay needs to pick-up his game immediately. Lulay started last week against the Argos and ended up losing the game 24-20. Lulay threw for 330 yards on 26-40 passing, but he had 2 INT’s and no TD’s. If the Lions want to piece together some victories they’ll need Lulay to start throwing the ball in the endzone and not in the oppositions hands.

Predictions
I really like the Lions to take the game tonight and I can see the Eskimos falling to 0-5. The Lions have always played well against Edmonton in recent years and I don’t see the trend changing tonight. The Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Edmonton and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games at Commonwealth Stadium. Lulay does scare me a bit, but I think he should be a bit more comfortable in the pocket tonight after gaining some much needed game experience last week.
I also like the under in tonight’s game even though the trends point towards the over. The over is 4-1 the last 5 games between these two teams, but that’s with Printers typically in the line-up. The good news is that the under is 4-1 the last 5 games that the Eskimos played against a team in the West Division and 4-1 after suffering an ATS loss.
My Picks – B.C. Lions +1.5 & Under 53 Points
