CFL Week 4 – Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Calgary Stampeders Lines & Picks

Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-0) will be in Calgary tonight to take on the Calgary Stampeders (2-1) and they’re hoping to start the season off 4-0 although it’s going to be extremely difficult against the Stampeders. Last season these two teams battled closely when playing in Calgary and I expect more of the same tonight.

In the two games that these two teams played against each other last season in Calgary the Roughriders only outscored Calgary by a single point. In their first game, Saskatchewan beat Calgary 24-23 and in the second game the two teams finished the game with a score of 44-44. I expect both teams will battle closely again and it’s going to definitely be the game of the week.

Stampeders QB Henry Burris was having a decent start to the 2010 CFL season until last week against the Argonauts. Burris was picked off 4 times against the Argonauts and he was really disappointed with himself. Now that he has had some time to think about the game back home in Calgary, I’m sure Burris will make the necessary changes to his game and be ready to play today. Even though he has 6 INT’s on the season already he also has completed 77 of 117 passes for 788 yards and 5 TD’s.

Joffrey Reynolds, the Stampeders running back has also been a bright spot for the team this season. He was expected to put up big numbers and he definitely has up to this point. Reynolds has 258 rushing yards with 1TD and 0 fumbles on the season already in just three games. Three Calgary receivers also have over 100 yards receiving already on the season and it’s good to see that the ball is being passed around all over the field.

Coming into the season, many people believed that the Roughriders would be the team to beat and it appears that most people were correct with their assumption. Durant has been leading the team on offence and has a 112.3 QB rating. Durant has thrown for 971 yards on the season with 7 TD’s and only 1 INT. With only 1 INT in the first three games of the season I’m sure Durant and his coaches have been pleased with his performance.

Saskatchewan Roughriders +1.5 vs. Calgary Stampeders –1.5
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Calgary Stampeders O/U 56 Points

Predictions

I’m really not too sure why the Stampeders are favoured by –1.5 points tonight even though they’re the home team. With the Roughriders being 3-0 on the season and Calgary coming off of a loss against the Argonauts, I can’t see why the bookies made Calgary the favourites. With Saskatchewan playing as good as football as they have been this season there is no way that I can’t bet on them as an underdog. The Roughriders are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the Stampeders and they’re also 4-1 ATS in their last five games in July.

Both of these teams have shown that they can have a high-powered offence that moves the ball quickly down the field when they want too. The problem is that these two teams usually play each other closely and I think there is going to be a lack of points tonight due to a strong performance by both defences. The under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 games that Calgary has played and if you look at the last 7 home games for the Stampeders then the under is a whooping 6-1. The under is also 12-5 the last 17 times that these two teams have played in Calgary.

My Pick – Saskatchewan Roughriders +1.5 & Under 56 Points
