Toronto Argonauts (2-1) will play host to the B.C. Lions (1-2) tonight at the Rogers Centre at 7:30PM. Tonight’s game is going to be important for both teams. If the Argonauts can win the game, they’ll be tied with the Alouettes atop of the East Division. For a team that was suppose to be a basement dweller all season, it’s been a huge surprise to see the Argos do so well. The Lions also need the win though, or else they’re going to be in the bottom of the West Division with the Eskimos.
Last week the Argonauts pulled a come from behind victory against the Stampeders. Toronto was losing the game 24-15 heading into the 4th quarter, but with a 12-0 4th quarter for the Argonauts, they pulled out the victory. Burris was really upset with the loss and it should be interesting to see if it affects him on Saturday. Boyd has a breakout game with 142 rushing yards on 20 carries, but Lemon still needs to improve. Lemon only completed 18-36 passes for 187 yards, 0 TD’s and 1 INT.
The Lions lost a close game last week against the Alouettes by a score of 16-12. B.C. has usually owned Montreal at home, but they had a very poor offensive performance. Printers played the entire game, which was good to see, but he only threw for 1 TD and had 2 INT’s. Lions RB, Robertson also had a really bad game. He had 6 carries for a mere 4 yards and to top it off he fumbled twice. If the Lions want to beat the Argonauts tonight in Toronto they’re going to need a much better game on offence.
Casey Printers won’t be starting this week against the Argonauts and back-up Travis Lulay will be getting the start. Lulay has seen minimal action on the field this year and he has actually played well. In week two against the Roughriders, Lulay came into the game and threw 9 completions on 15 passes for 197 yards and 1 TD. The one thing we don’t know about Lulay is if he can lead the Lions for an entire game and win them the game.
Betting Lines (From Sportsbook.com)
Toronto Argonauts +1.5 vs. B.C. Lions –1.5
Toronto Argonauts vs. B.C. Lions O/U 47
Predictions
The Lions seem to always play good against the Argonauts, but most of the time Printers has been the QB. I’m still unsure about Lulay and I don’t like laying money on a back-up QB. At least I know what I’m going to get from Cleo Lemon after being able to watch him the first three weeks of the season. The Argonauts have a horrible record of 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record. The inability to beat teams with losing records makes me uneasy, but I’m going to ride with the Argonauts while they’re hot.
The trends all point to the under tonight and I’m sure that’s why the bookies have the over/under set so low at 47 points. It’s hard to say what will happen on the over/under tonight, but I’m going to follow the trends with this wager. In the last 7 games between these two teams the under is 6-1 and if you look at the last 7 games between these two teams in Toronto then the under is also 6-1. The Lions have also been playing low scoring games the past couple years in July, as they have gone under the total 4 out of their past 5 games in July.
