This past week in the CFL the favourites did terrible going a combined 1-3 ATS. Both the Roughriders and Alouettes won their games, but didn’t quite cover the point spread, while the Stampeders lost their game against the Argonauts. Hamilton was the only favourite this week to win their game by the spread and it was important for them, as they were 0-2 coming into the week. Let’s now take a look at the power rankings heading into week four of the season.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-0) are definitely the team to beat right now in the CFL. They’re the only undefeated team left and they have shown a lot of heart early on in the season. This past week it looked like the Roughriders might lose against the Eskimos, but they managed to make a nice 4th quarter comeback and won the game 24-20.

As we talked about in our game preview earlier this week, the Montreal Alouettes (2-1) seem to always have a tough time when they need to travel to B.C. for a game. This week they managed to win the game 16-12, but they should have covered the spread. FG Kicker David Duval missed two crucial kicks early in the game and it proved costly as Montreal only won the game by four points. With a 2-1 record the Alouettes are this week’s #2 team in the power rankings.

This may be a bit of a surprise, but the Toronto Argonauts (2-1) deserve to be the #3 team heading into week 4. They just defeated the Stampeders who were undefeated coming into week 3. The Argos needed a big 4th quarter comeback to beat Calgary, but they showed a lot of heart and got the job done at home. Toronto has been passing around the ball to a lot of different receivers, which I like, but they need QB Lemon to get the ball in the endzone more.

The Calgary Stampeders (2-1) were undefeated coming into week 3 and it looked like they should have been able to go 3-0, but the pesky Argonauts had other plans. Calgary dismantled in the 4th quarter this past week and they have to ensure this doesn’t happen again or they’ll be moving even further down our power rankings. Calgary is still 2-1 and in good shape, but I’m sure they’ll want to quickly forget about this past week in Toronto.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-2) picked up their first win of the season against the Blue Bombers, which also means these two teams split their season series. The Tiger-Cats were expected to be a Grey Cup contender this season, but at 1-2 they have a lot of work to do to throughout the rest of the season. Hamilton will need to try and piece together a win this week when they visit Montreal.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-2) started off the season with a victory over Hamilton, but they’ve now lost two games in a row and are sitting in the bottom of the East Division. Winnipeg plays Edmonton this week, so they should be able to get a win and put them back to .500 on the season.

The B.C. Lions (1-2) have been playing great defence for the most part this season, but there offence has been struggling. Printers did end up playing this past week, but he only completed 50% of his passes and had 2 INT’s. If the Lions want to beat the Argos this week then they’ll need a better performance from Printers. The team also was held to 7 yards on the ground this past week against the Alouettes, which is simply unacceptable.

Edmonton Eskimos (0-3) have easily been the worst team this season and it didn’t get any better for them this past week, as they ended up losing to the Roughriders. The Eskimos have blown to 4th quarter leads in the past two weeks and what’s even more remarkable is the fact that they haven’t scored a point in the 4th quarter the entire season. The Eskimos are slowly slipping out of contentions in the first half of the season and if they can’t get a win soon, it’ll be all but over for them.
