The Montreal Alouettes (1-1) will travel across the country for tomorrow night’s game against the B.C. Lions (1-1). Both teams have a .500 record coming into this weeks match-up and I’m sure both will be hungry for a victory. The game will start at 10:00PM EST on Friday night and you’ll be able to watch the game on TSN.

The Alouettes started the 2010 CFL season against the Roughriders and came out of the game with a 3-point loss in a high scoring affair that ended in a 54-51 final. Montreal bounced back against the struggling Eskimos with a 33-23 victory last week and should have some momentum coming into B.C. this weekend.

In week one of the season the Lions started off on the opposite foot of the Alouettes. The Lions won their first game of the season against Edmonton by a score of 25-10. B.C. then hosted the Roughriders in week two, but they didn’t have a good performance and lost the game 37-18 in a blowout.

For those of you that don’t follow the CFL or do any CFL betting, it should be noted that Montreal hasn’t beaten the Lions in B.C. since 2000, which is a very long time ago. I’m not sure why the Alouettes can’t seem to win in B.C., but there is something that just doesn’t click. The good thing about Friday’s game is that it’s being played outdoors at the Empire Field rather then at B.C. Place, which should give Montreal a boost in confidence.

Another factor that should boost Montreal backer’s confidence is the fact that the team stayed out West this week. Instead of coming back to Montreal they went from Edmonton to B.C. and have been there the entire week. I hope that the Als have been working on their defence this week because it’s been pretty bad. The team has given up 821 passing yards and 282 rushing yards so far this season after two games.

In the first game of the season the Lions QB Casey Printer and RB Jamal Robertson had great games. Printer threw for 218 yards and zero interceptions while Robertson ran the ball for 168 yards and a TD. In the second game the offence had a bad game and Printers went down with an injury, which meant back-up Lulay needed to come into the game at QB. This week Printers is suppose to play, but I wouldn’t doubt it if Lulay starts the game.

Lines (From Sportsbook.com)

  • B.C. Lions +5.5 vs. Montreal Alouettes –5.5
  • B.C. Lions vs. Montreal Alouettes O/U 54 Points

With Printers still nursing a small injury and the possibility of Lulay playing, I’m going to go with the Alouettes. The –5.5 spread looks a lot like the Stampeders spread on Wednesday night, but I don’t think the underdog is going to win this match-up. One of the keys to Montreal winning will be shutting down Robertson on the ground. If they can shut down Robertson then the Lions will need to test the Montreal secondary. The secondary has struggled already this season, but I seen improvements in week two over week one and hope the trend continues in B.C. on Friday night.

The Alouettes have had no trouble at all scoring this season, as they’ve posted scores of 51 and 33 points already. They’ve also given up 54 and 23 points this season, which makes you, lean to the over. However, the Lions have had problems scoring this year and if Printers isn’t playing then I think they’ll struggle to score again. With a 54 point spread I’m leaning towards the under in this game, as I can see a final score of 30-13 for the Alouettes.

My Picks – Alouettes –5.5 & Under 54 Points
