Montreal Alouettes (9-3) will take on the Calgary Stampeders (9-3) this Friday in a game that will determine who’ll take over the 1st place position in the CFL. Both teams have already clinched a playoff berth this season, but I don’t think either team is going to give an inch this weekend. Calgary is coming into the game on a 2-game losing streak while the Alouettes have a 3-game winning streak coming into the game.
The Alouettes won a wild game last week against the Blue Bombers in a 44-40 shootout. Calvillo had a bit of an off day and only completed 36 of 54 passes, but he did gain a massive 477 yards through the air including 5 TD passes. Cobourne only ran the ball 11 times last week and gained 77 yards, but I feel Montreal needs to utilize him more in the backfield. Montreal’s defence didn’t play that badly even though they gave up 40 points, but there is definitely plenty of room for improvement this week.
Calgary is coming into the game on a 2-game losing streak as we mentioned above and they haven’t been playing like they were in the first half of the season. They’re coming off a rough loss against the Lions by a score of 29-10 in a game that was never really that close. Burris only completed 11 of 26 passing attempts for 136 yards and 2 INT’s. If he can’t start playing like he can then he’s going to end up costing the Stampeders come playoff time.
Nik Lewis was out with an injury last week and he is an important piece of the Stampeders offence. He’ll be back this week and that means he’ll provide an immediate threat, but more importantly Ken-Yon Rambo should have more room to roam. I expect this game to be close, which is why I’m taking the +3.5 points with the underdog Alouettes.

Predictions
Burris hasn’t looked right the past couple weeks and it’s not going to be easy trying to get back to normal against the Alouettes defence although if they play like last week, Burris should shred them apart. Calvillo is always a threat and I expect him to be used a ton in this game. I just can’t see the Alouettes letting this game get out of hand and I’ll take the +3.5 points everyday of the week. Montreal has also done well in Calgary and has a 5-2-1 ATS record in their past 8 games in Calgary.
The over/under is extremely tough this week, but I feel like the 56.5 points is a little high. Calgary couldn’t score against B.C. last week and I can’t see them putting up that many points this week. Montreal scored a ton last week, but the Stamps defence is better then the Bombers defence.
My Picks – Alouettes +3.5 & Under 56.5
