We seen plenty of surprises last week in the CFL, but the biggest one had to have been the last game of the week. Most people expected the Roughriders to cover by 4, including me, but they ended up getting smoked by Winnipeg. I missed a couple games this week, but I’ll be posting picks for all four games this week.
Calgary Stampeders (9-1) took on the Eskimos in the first game of the week and won 36-20. The Stamps now have a 7 game winning streak since losing to the Argos and it doesn’t look like anyone will stop them in the West. Burris settled down this week and had a great game. He completed 29 of 35 passes and gained over 400 yards while throwing 2 TD’s and only 1 INT.
Now that the two bye weeks are finished we’re going to be back to normal here at SportsUntapped. With the Labour Day weekend around the corner, it’s time to take a look at the power rankings for week 10 in the CFL. There aren’t many changes for the power rankings this week although I’m pleased to announce that the Argonauts are back in the top 3.
• Calgary Stampeders (7-1) have now won 5 games in a row and have grown a comfortable lead in the West. In week 9 the Stamps played the Lions and won the game 48-35 in a shootout. I was surprised to see so many points in the game, but it didn’t surprise me that the Stampeders won the game by 10+ points. Burris threw 3 INT’s in the game and only 2 TD’s, but he should be able to bounce back this week against the Eskimos.
In CFL week 7 I went 4-4 with my predictions and hopefully this week I can finish with at least 5 wins. I wasn’t expecting such high scoring in a couple of the games and the Lions have proven to me that they have nothing left in the tank. We also have a new team at the top of the power rankings this week after the Alouettes lost to the Stampeders.
Calgary Stampeders (6-1) now have the best record in the CFL and it doesn’t look like anyone can stop them. Calgary is off to their best start in a decade and they have all next week off to gear up for their week 9 tilt against the Lions. This past week the Stampeders beat-up on the Eskimos 56-15. Reynolds and Cornish combined for 21 carries, 153 yards and 1 TD in the game. Burris also had a great game, as he went 21 for 29 in the air with 305 yards and 3 TD’s.
We went 3-1 on the first two games this week and due to certain circumstances I was unable to provide my picks for the last two games of the week. Hamilton and Calgary managed to win their games on Saturday, which means we aren’t going to see much of a change to our CFL power rankings.
Montreal Alouettes (5-1) showed everyone this week why they’re atop of the power rankings. Montreal defeated the Roughriders by a score of 30-26, which wasn’t quite enough to cover the spread. Calvillo has started where he left off last season this season and was just awarded player of the month honours. Unless the Alouettes start losing they’re going to remain in the number one spot on my power rankings.
