CFL Betting Guide
The CFL (Canadian Football League) has been in existence for over 100 years now and is the second most popular Canadian sport, trailing only hockey. The CFL is the highest level of football in Canada and is similar to the NFL in the USA except the talent level is lower in the CFL. A lot of football players that are trying to develop into NFL players will play in the CFL. If you’ve never watched a CFL game before there are a few distinct differences between a CFL game and NFL game and it is bit different compared to the NFL betting.
• In the CFL teams receive 3 downs to gain 10 yards compared to 4 downs in the NFL
• The football field is bigger in the CFL then the NFL
• Defence lines up 1 yard off the line in the CFL compared to right on the line in the NFL
• Teams score 1 point for kicking the football into the other teams endzone on a punt or a missed field goal if the other team doesn’t run out of the endzone.

How to Read CFL Odds?
• Toronto Argonauts vs. Calgary Stampeders –3.5 — O/U 50.5
In the example above the Stampeders are –3.5-point favourites against the Argonauts. This means that if you pick Calgary they need to win by 4 points for you to win your bet. If you pick the Argonauts then they could lose by up to 3 points and you’d still win your bet because they’re the underdog.
If you’re going to bet on the over/under in the game then you need to decide whether both teams will go over or under the posted point total, which in this case is 50.5 points. If you think both teams will score more then 50.5 points then you’d bet the over and vice versa if you think they’ll score under that amount.
Types of CFL Bets
• Moneyline Bet – Toronto Argonauts +125 vs. Calgary Stampeders –115
In a moneyline bet you simply pick the team that you think is going to win the football game. They only need to win the game by one point on this type of bet.
• Point Spread Bet – Toronto Argonauts vs. Calgary Stampeders –5.5
In a point spread bet the favoured team needs to win the game by more then the spread. In the example above the Stampeders need to win the game by 6 points or more for this bet to win.
• Over/Under Bet – Toronto Argonauts vs. Calgary Stampeders 45.5 Points
In an over/under wager you need to determine whether or not both of the teams will combine to score over or under a predetermined point total.
A parlay is when you bet on multiple outcomes on the same wager. In order to win a parlay all of the outcomes you’ve chosen need to win. Parlays are used to increase payouts, but make sure you don’t bet on to many games on the same parlay.
• Prop/Future Wagers
A proposition bet and future bet are offered by most sportbooks for the CFL and can be fun. An example of a prop bet is whether or not a RB is going to run for 75+ yards in a game. There are usually about 10 or so prop bets listed by sportbooks for every CFL game. An example of a future bet would be betting on the BC Lions to win more then 7.5 games throughout the season, but keep in mind the wager needs to be made at the beginning of the season.
