The past two seasons have been rough for the Boston Celtics in the injury department as they have struggled to stay healthy throughout the regular season.
Last season, in the Celtics title defense, Kevin Garnett went down in the second half of the season with a knee injury that at first didn’t seem all that serious, but ended up being a season ending injury that basically ended Boston’s hopes of repeating as NBA champions. The Celtics dropped in the standings and really struggled in the playoffs without KG in the paint leading the defense.
Needless to say, the Boston Celtics were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round against the eventual Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic and talks of the Celtics showing their age started to circulate around the league.
This season the Celtics had their team back healthy and were optimistic about their chances to compete for another NBA title, especially after signing forward Rasheed Wallace in the offseason.
Even though Boston is in contention right now in the Eastern Conference with a first place standing in the Atlantic division and a 30-16 record, the injuries are started to take their toll as the Celtics don’t look like the dominant team of old.
Kevin Garnett is really starting to show signs of age this season as the knee has been acting up throughout the year and Paul Pierce also has missed some time with injuries of his own. Despite these injuries though, the Celtics will almost certainly get back in the playoffs and could be a force to be reckoned with in the East once again, but Boston fans might be in for real shock soon as the results of Paul Pierce’s latest foot injury are about to be announced.
Last night the Boston Celtics went in the nation’s capital to face off against the lowly Washington Wizards. Fortunately, they came out with the 99-88 victory over the Wizards, but may have suffered a huge blow in the process as Paul Pierce went down with a foot injury in the first quarter.
Apparently, Pierce and Wizards guard Caron Butler went after a loose ball on the floor and Butler ended up falling on Pierce’s foot which forced him to head to the locker room and get X-rays. Pierce has said he doesn’t think the injury is serious and head coach Doc Rivers has said the same, but recently Celtics bench player Shelden Williams sent out a tweet saying:
“Man when it rains it pours!!! Yall find out what I mean soon!!!!”
The results of Pierce’s X-rays have yet to be released, but after reading something like this for a Celtics player one can only guess the results are far from good.
