This past weekend, Grammy-winning singer Carrie Underwood married Ottawa Senator center Mike Fisher in a ritzy ceremony in Greensboro, Georgia. Over 250 guests witnessed the nuptials including Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The ceremony reportedly featured the couple’s favorite Bible verses and classical music.
Their wedding planner described the ceremony as “a spiritual expression of their love” for a “very special couple.”
The Ottawa-born Fisher met Underwood on March 21, 2008 when he went backstage to chat her up after she performed in Ottawa. Fisher popped the question last December, and the engagement seemed to agree with him as he scored a career-high 25 goals last season.
Fisher’s spent all 10 years of his NHL career with the Senators. Teammate Chris Neil had this to say after the engagement:
It’s a long time coming. There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts here in Ottawa with all those girls that are in love with Mikey. He’s met an awesome girl. We’re ecstatic for him.
In March, Underwood told People that she and her new hubby plan to keep two homes — one in Nashville and one in Fisher’s hometown of Peterborough, Ontario.
Underwood first publicly declared her love for Fisher in the liner notes of her new CD, Play On:
Thank you #12. You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day… xoxo, Carrie.
