The Boston Bruins have come back to tie the Stanley Cup Finals at two games apiece after a second straight home rout of the Vancouver Canucks. Rich Peverley, who took the injured Nathan Horton’s spot on Boston’s top line, scored the first and last goal of the night for the Bruins in their 4-0 win on Wednesday night, while goaltender Tim Thomas came through with his third shutout of these playoffs.
After scoring four goals in the second period of Game 3 in an 8-1 win, the Bruins scored three goals in the second period of Game 4. Vancouver goalie Robert Luongo was pulled early in the third period after allowing the fourth and final goal of the night, the 12th goal he allowed in a span of less than 84 minutes. Luongo had allowed just one goal total in Vancouver’s two home wins at the start of the series.
“It was a tough one,’’ admitted Luongo after the game. “A few of the goals went off something and in, and obviously we’re not getting the breaks. It’s just a matter of staying focused. Obviously, we’ve got home-ice advantage for a reason. We have to regroup here and make sure come Game 5 at home, we come out and play the type of game we want to be playing.’’
On the other side, Thomas has stopped 141 of the 146 shots he’s faced in the Finals. Thomas said he was inspired that Horton, out for the rest of the Finals with a serious concussion, made an appearance in the Bruins locker room before Game 3. “I’d heard that he was O.K., but I didn’t know if O.K. meant he was going to live,” said Thomas. “But when I personally saw him in the locker room, I was very happy. It gave me a big boost.
