The Boston Bruins took a commanding 2-0 lead in their second round series with a 3-2 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but then had no answer for Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, who made 52 saves in Monday’s Game 2. David Krejci, who had four points in Boston’s 7-3 victory in Game 1, scored the game-winner 14 minutes into overtime.

James van Riemsdyk gave the Flyers an early 1-0 lead on the home team’s first shot of the game, just 29 seconds into the contest. Just over nine minutes later, he added another goal on the power play. But it took the Bruins less than five minutes to even the score thanks to goals from Chris Kelly and Brad Marchand. Then the two teams played nearly 60 minutes of scoreless hockey.

Thomas stopped the final 46 shots he faced, including 22 in the third period and 10 more in overtime. “It’s almost unfair that we have Timmy back there for us,” said Marchand of the Bruins netminder. “He’s made so many great saves. They could have dominated that game, and they did for the most part, but he just made some unbelievable saves.”

The game-winner must have been especially sweet for Krejci since he said several Flyers reminded him how they broke his wrist and knocked him out of the final four games of last year’s series, which the Flyers won in seven games after falling in a 3-0 hole.

Game 3 is Wednesday night in Boston.
