Tim Tebow last great act as Denver Broncos quarterback was the first play from scrimmage in overtime in his first playoff game. Tebow connected with receiver Demaryious Thomas for a game-winning 80-yard touchdown catch and run. A few months later, Tebow has been traded to the Jets and the receiver that caught the quarterback’s greatest professional pass is saying Tebow won’t be missed in Denver.
“I ain’t going to say I was sad [that Tebow was traded because the only thing they remember is that pass,” Thomas said in an interview with an Atlanta radio station on Wednesday. “You gotta go back and look at the rest of the games. I wasn’t getting no balls and you had to make some of these plays where some players were open and he is not making the throws, but I don’t want to talk bad about Tim. But, hey, I am happy we got Peyton.”
Thomas said he certainly wasn’t alone in criticizing Tebow’s inability to make plays in the first 50 minutes of games. “You would have people calling him out,” Thomas explained. “Saying, ‘Tim, you gotta make that throw. You gotta read the defenses better.’”
Still, less than 24 hours after giving the Atlanta radio station, Thomas was back on a Denver radio station backpedaling on some of those statements after a flood of criticism from Tebow’s multitudes of believers. “Tim … gave me the chance to make plays,” Thomas told the Denver station. “I respect that and I love Tim for that. It wasn’t no hard feelings or nothing against Tim. He’s a great player. If we had him, I’d love to have him. If we had him still, there wouldn’t be no problem me playing with him. It’s just that we’ve got another quarterback now. I really don’t talk about much about Tim no more, since he’s not here with us.”
