Boston Red Sox sign veteran Carlos Delgado

The Boston Red Sox announced the signing of veteran Carlos Delgado. He was signed to a minor league contract, but the club hopes he can make enough of an impact to join the major league team in the near future.

Delgado is a career .280 hitter that needs just 27 more homeruns to reach 500 in his career. Delgado has drove home over 1500 runs, playing in Toronto and then most recently New York, with the Mets.

The former All Star first basemen will begin in Triple A Pawtucket to work himself into playing condition. Delgado has not played all season after twice undergoing surgery to repair a hip injury.
