Bodog Sportsbook Review

Bodog may be the best known brand name in offshore sports betting, at least in the North American market.  Though their roots are in sports gambling, they leveraged the ‘poker boom’ of the early 2000’s better than any of their competitors to become a destination spot for card players.  They also expanded the reach of their brand into other areas including live music, MMA promotion and even a short lived men’s lifestyle magazine.

Bodog has never made any pretenses about being a shop for ‘wise guys’ or professional players.  Their focus is clearly on the recreational gambler as reflected by lower limits than many of their competitors.  They don’t advertise quite as much as they did during their heyday with Calvin Ayre at the helm, but they’re still arguably the best known sportsbook among casual sports fans and recreational bettors.  They may not be a ‘good fit’ for big players or professional sports bettors.

The Bodog software further reflects their emphasis on the recreational market as it is very straightforward and easy to use.  All of the major US sports are covered, and Bodog is always one of the first to post lines on upcoming MMA events (albeit with very low limits).  They also offer a fair selection of the major European and international sports with a decent selection of soccer wagering options and other sports like cricket and rugby.  If you’re looking to bet European hockey or basketball, as well as other lower profile international sports you’ll have to look elsewhere.  Their poker room might not be as busy as it once was, but it’s still available to clients as well as a casino and racebook.

Bodog is currently celebrating their 15th year in the business, and as a promotion has increased the payout on four team parlays to 15/1.  They offer a wide selection of live betting options, as well as offering unique proposition wagers on entertainment and politics from time to time.  Most of their signup, reload and referral bonuses are fairly standard for the sports gambling industry.

While ‘sharp’ players, high dollar bettors and professionals might want to look elsewhere, for everyone else Bodog is a good choice.  They do a solid job catering to their recreational player client base with all of the major sports presented in a simple to use format.  For the average sports fan looking to risk a few dollars on their alma mater’s weekly football game, or on a Sunday NFL card Bodog is a great fit.
