Blizzard Postpones Blues Game Against Avalanche

Tuesday’s scheduled game between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues was postponed because of a blizzard watch. The game has yet to be rescheduled. The Avalanche had already completed their morning skate at the Scottrade Center and were on their way back to their hotel when the decision to postpone the game was made.

Overnight sleet had made roads treacherous on Tuesday morning, and the forecast called for up to two feet of snow, 35 mph winds and possible whiteout conditions. It’s part of the same storm system that’s making things awfully cold for Super Bowl week in Dallas. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong huddled up with NHL senior executive vice president Colin Campbell, and they decided the postponement was necessary for the safety of fans and arena workers.

While 80% of commercial flights out of St. Louis were canceled, the Avalanche were able to fly out of St. Louis on a charter flight on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams are currently on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture looking in, and will now have to wait a few more days to get in their first game after the All-Star break. The Avalanche, in 10th place in the West and two points out of playoff position, will host the ninth-place Minnesota Wild on Thursday. The Blues, in 13th place and seven points out of playoff position, host the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
