BetOnline Sportsbook Review

BetOnline may not be the best known name in the sports betting industry, but they’re a well run book with a lot of innovative features. They’re an excellent choice for casual and recreational sports bettors. They do have a number of unique qualities, beginning with their location in Panama City, Panama. While much of the offshore sports betting world is based in Costa Rica, Panama City offers many of the same amenities you’d expect from a modern financial center with good technological infrastructure.

BetOnline is rapidly becoming a player in the offshore sports gaming world by focusing on the middle of the market.  Their target demographic is recreational and casual players, similar to the market segment that BoDog seeks to serve.  They offer online and telephone wagering, with their website being very easy to use and navigate.  While their location in Panama City, Panama puts them outside of the more traditional focal points of online gaming, the city has a very good reputation among those in the know about business and technology.

BetOnline is clearly targeting the US market first and foremost and the sports they offer reflect that.  There’s simply not the variety of international sports offered by competing sportsbooks outside of European soccer which is becoming a standard part of most bookmaker’s menus.  Aside from that, the clear focus is on the major North American team sports of football, basketball, baseball and hockey.  BetOnline does take action on entertainment and political proposition bets, as well as major events in golf, tennis, boxing, NASCAR and MMA.  There is also a full race book with a 7% rebate.  A full casino is also available though, oddly, no poker room making BetOnline one of the few major online books without one.

One unique offering of BetOnline is an extensive amount of handicapping information and resources.  In addition to matchups, stats and past performance data there’s also a section devoted to game write ups and picks from BetOnline’s staff handicappers.  The handicapper analysis is solid, and is willing to make decisive calls unlike many books that use this sort of content simply to promote ‘big’ games.

BetOnline is clearly not seeking ‘wise guy’ or sharp money business, but it’s an excellent choice for recreational players.  In particular, US players will enjoy their easy to use website and handicapping information.  European based players, meanwhile, will feel somewhat ‘left out’ at the absence of many sports they’re used to betting on.   For the ‘meat and potatoes’ American based sports bettor, BetOnline is a perfect fit.
