Ben Cahoon about to set All-Time CFL Receptions Record

If you’ve been watching CFL for any number of years then you’ll definitely know the name Ben Cahoon. Cahoon has been the #1 wide receiver on the Alouettes team for years now and at 38 years old his career may be coming to an end soon. Thankfully for Ben he’s only a few receptions away from breaking the all-time CFL receptions record, which is an incredible feat.

Over the years Cahoon has been able to overcome all odds and become one of the best CFL in the history of the sport. Cahoon is only 5’9 and isn’t the speediest receiver either, but he always seems to be able to get into the open field. The current CFL receptions leader is Terry Vaughn with 1006 receptions between the years 1995-2004.

Many of you may remember Vaughn with the Eskimos, Stampeders or Alouettes. He managed to make it to the 3 CFL all-star games in his career and won the Grey Cup twice with two different teams. Cahoon has played his entire career with Montreal and is looking for his 9th straight season with over 1000+ receiving yards.

This past week Cahoon started the game with 995 receptions and with 5 catches against the Blue Bombers this week, he’s been able to reach the 1000 reception plateau. Ben is only 6 receptions away from tying Vaughn with the most career receptions in the CFL and he should easily accomplish this feat within the next couple weeks.

This might be the last season for Ben Cahoon, as there have been reports that he may retire at the end of this season. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind winning 1 more Grey Cup with his team though, which may come this season. For a player to catch over 1000 passes in his career is an incredible story and my hat goes off to one of the greatest receivers all-time.
