We’ve got an attractive baseball betting position in Sunday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox. The White Sox are starting to come around after a slow start, but are just 13-18 on the year and mired in the middle of the pack in the AL Central. The Blue Jays have been playing very good baseball, winning 8 of 10. Their biggest problem is that they’re in the same division with two of the hottest teams in baseball and are struggling to keep up with the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.
CHICAGO WHITE SOX VS. TORONTO BLUE JAYS:
If the dog in today’s picture could hit left handed pitching, he’d be in the White Sox lineup today. The White Sox won yesterday’s game behind a strong outing from Jake Peavy, but find themselves in an unfavorable pitching matchup today. Actually, most pitching matchups have been bad for Chicago since they’re not hitting the ball–they’re ranked 11th in the AL in runs scored and dead last in team batting average at .223. Toronto is only 11th in team batting average, but they’ve been finding ways to score runs–they’re tied for 4th in the league in runs scored.
As bad as the White Sox have been offensively, they’ve been even worse against left handers with a .208 batting average and scoring 3.6 runs per game against southpaws. Ricky Romero (not to be confused with Lucy’s ex-husband, Cuban bandleader Ricky Ricardo) gets the start here for Toronto and he’s been capable this year with a 3.00 ERA. The Jays have won 4 of his 6 starts, and with Chicago’s pitiful performance against lefties could have a big game here. Gavin Floyd (not to be confused with Gavin McCloud, who played Captain Merrill Stubing on ‘The Love Boat’) checks in with a 6.89 ERA and the Sox have lost 4 of his 6 starts this season. Toronto has been a better team on the road than at home this season, and have an 11-4 record good for 10.8 units of profit away from the Rogers Centre. To top it all off, Toronto has dominated head to head play with Chicago–they’ve won 17 of the last 21 meetings overall and 7 of the last 10 in the White Sox’s home yard. They’re a good value here at a ‘pick’em’ price.
