Third-place Barcelona still aren’t playing consistent football, as shown by their 1-1 midweek European Champions league draw in Russia against Rubin Kazan. They’ve only dropped three points this season, a humiliating 2-0 loss at home to newly-promoted club Hercules, but there still seemed to be something missing, and that could have been the injured Lionel Messi.

However, Messi has returned from an ankle injury against Rubin Kazan and he’ll be welcomed back to La Liga by Barcelona fans for the Oct. 3rd clash at home against 11th-place Mallorca.

Mallorca sits in 11th place with just seven points from five games. One of those was earned in a 0-0 draw at home against Real Madrid in their season opener. The problem with Mallorca is they’re pretty weak on the road and won only three away games last season.

Michael Laudrup has taken over the club this season and will be aiming to drastically improve on that statistic, but hasn’t had any luck yet as they’ve lost Sporting de Gijon and Athletic Bilbao by a combined score of 5-0. Mallorca last beat Barcelona in May 2009 by a 2-1 score and have lost to them twice since, with a 1-0 home defeat in March.

Expect Messi and Eric Abidal to dress for Barcelona, but David Villa will miss the match due to a suspension after being sent off in the club’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao last weekend. Adriano might miss the game with a hamstring injury and Xavi could be out with tendonitis.

Mallorca will be missing Nunes due to a sprained ankle for the next two to three weeks and Tuni is close to returning. Defender Enrique Corrales and Victor Casadesus will be game time decisions.

Barcelona vs Mallorca Betting Odds and Predictions

Mallorca usually raise their game against Barcelona and the past four or five between each other have been pretty close. But, they just can’t seem to get over the hump on the road and it’s doubtful they will in this game. A 3-1 win for Barcelona could be on the books.

Sportsbook William Hill has the odds of a Barcelona win posted at 1/6 while a Mallorca victory is 4/1 and the odds of a draw are 9/4. The odds of 3-1 win for Barcelona are 10/1.
