The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday that paychecks for some game day staffers bounced this week, but insisted it was more of a technicality than lack of funds after the team filed for bankruptcy earlier this week. The affected workers, security guards and ushers, were reissued on Wednesday because the team’s accounts were frozen for 48 hours because of the bankruptcy filing.
Considering that security at Dodger Stadium became a major issue after a fan was beaten comatose in the Dodger Stadium parking lot on Opening Day, you kind of wish someone had made sure the security guards of all people would have gotten their checks right.
Meanwhile lawyers for embattled Dodgers owner Frank McCourt plan to depose Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig under oath on July 15. The Dodgers are trying to make a case that their financial problems are due to largely to interference from the commissioner’s office that has prevented them from getting a huge television deal that might have kept the team afloat for a while longer.
Lawyer turned NBC sports internet baseball writer Craig Calcaterra points out that the Dodgers bankruptcy is way more adversarial than other recent baseball bankruptcy filings by the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs, and that McCourt’s lawyers misspelled Bud Selig’s real name three times in a recent court filing.

Interesting to see that the Bankruptcy Judge has denied Fox, by authorizing the Dodgers to begin marketing their media rights. The Dodgers wish to begin the bidding process on January 13, 2012 and finalize the sale by April 30. This is after Bud Selig’s denial of the TV deal with Fox in June. Fox has filed an appeal in the Delaware federal district court to overrule the court’s decision and there is a teleconference today regarding this appeal. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Thanks for the post!
