Just kidding. I’m fairly certain that Justin Upton can go by his real name now. You’ve pretty much arrived when you’re handed $51.25 million to play baseball for six years.
With two big league seasons already tucked under his belt at the tender age of 22, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfielder has technically already one-upped his big brother B.J., who was chosen as the no. 2 overall pick of the 2002 draft. Justin was picked no. 1 by the D’Backs three years later.
Upton batted a nice, round .300 last season with 26 homers and 86 RBIs for Arizona. After signing the second-largest deal in franchise history (just shy of Randy Johnson’s $52.4 million back in 1999) the expectations are high, and he has no doubt that he’ll live up to them…
“There’s a lot to live up to,” he said, “and I think I’m ready for that.”
Yeah, especially now that he’s making more that $412,000 a season. Cha-ching.
