Doc Gooden Is At It Again

Former Major League Baseball player Dwight Gooden has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, fleeing the scene of an accident, child endangerment and motor vehicle violations.

To make matters worse, the former New York Mets and Yankees pitcher had a child in his vehicle at the time of the two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning.  Yes, he was high on drugs on a Tuesday morning.  With a kid in his car.  No word on whose child it was yet, but Franklin Lakes police say no one was hurt.

Sadly, we can’t make proper fun of this situation without knowing exactly what drugs Gooden was on, which has yet to be released.  The former baseball Star does have a history of issues with alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, however.

The driver of the other car, Ronald Schmidt, said he recognized Gooden immediately.

Jim Edmonds on Comeback Trail

Jim Edmonds may be pushing 40, but he’s smashing the baseball like he’s a decade younger.

The 39-year-old outfielder drove in five runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-2 win over the Cleveland Indians Tuesday.  He nailed a three-run homer off Jeremy Sowers during the Brewers’ four-run first inning and added a two-run single in the five-run second.

Edmonds, who’s hit 382 bombs and acquired eight Gold Gloves over his 16-year career, is currently in spring training camp on a minor league contract after sitting out all of last season.

He is officially an inspiration to veteran players all over the league.  I’m looking at you, Kevin Millar. The Cubbies need you!

Funny Steroids in Baseball Video

So my buddy Jerod from Midwest Sports Fan alerted me to this awesome video montage which covers the steroids era in baseball.  What makes this video so great is not the Billy Joel parody, but the flash images and dark truth.

Jerod used his wit and writing talent to help create this back in the day along with the guys from Flash Sports Tonight.  It’s awesome.

Enjoy.

Don’t Worry About Tim Lincecum

I like to think of Spring Training like preseason football.  Remember back in 2008 when the Detroit Lions went 4-0 in the preseason and then managed to lose every single one of their regular season games?  Yeah, preseason is not a concrete indicator of how the regular season will pan out.

Spring Training is very much the same, especially when you through in some random A-ballers and players who may never play at the major league level.  It’s practice.  It’s preparation.

This brings me to Tim Lincecum.  The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner has not has that great of a spring.   The 25-year-old righty was a bit crazy Sunday, walking five hitters and allowing three hits over 94 pitches.  He did strike out six over his 5.2 innings, which accounted for his longest outing of the spring so far.  Heading into Sunday, he was 0-2 with an inflated 9.39 ERA.

The Milton Bradley Insanity Timeline Milton Bradley is nuts. You know it, I know it. This insanity is clearly a large contributing factor to the reason he has been through eight different teams over his 11 big league seasons. That, or he really likes to move around a lot.

David Price Awes Casual Fans Seriously, didn't I just go off about the dangers of maple bats like a week ago? Yes, it was last Tuesday, in fact. Did I also not go on and on about the thrills of danger? You bet I did.
