Is Stanley Robinson The Best Dunker in College?

Not a whole lot happened in college basketball last night, save for the upset of Villanova by the UConn Huskies (at Villanova, no less). However, thanks to the eye-popping athleticism of one Stanley Robinson — not to mention, his dunk against Cincinnati last Saturday — a question arose: Is Robinson the best dunker in college basketball this season?

While the answer is pretty much a completely subjective response, the question does warrant exploration. I’ll grant you, there are a number of explosive dunkers out there, especially in small schools, but I’m having a hard time thinking of someone who dunks with the authority that Robinson does.

In fact, his style is so authoritative, it almost reminds me of Blake Griffin.

Did Louisville Save Their Season?

It hasn’t been the type of year they were expecting in Kentucky’s “other” school, the University of Louisville. After last season’s Elite Eight and then starting the season being ranked in the top-25, the Cardinals have experienced something of a letdown. Early home losses to teams like Charlotte and Western Carolina, followed by middle-of-the-pack start in the Big East, put the Cardinals’ NCAA Tournament in doubt.

However, after beating Syracuse on the road yesterday, did the Cardinals salvage their season? While that remains to be seen, the win did put them back in Joe Lunardi’s good graces. In ESPN’s latest Bracketology prognostication exercise, the Cardinals are projected 11th seed in East bracket, and while this is subject to much change, beating Syracuse in their own house has earned the Cardinals something of a reprieve.

Your 2010 McDonald’s All-Americans

While it may be true that your John Walls, Michael Beasleys, Kevin Durants, and various other college basketball stars don’t grow on trees, apparently, the McDonald’s restaurant manufactures them, much like they do Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets. The process involves locating these players while they are in pupa form and then lavishing enough attention on them, they become household names. McDonald’s, from what I can see, completes the chrysalis by thrusting these newly-hatched young `uns upon the sporting world.

And with that, the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Teams have been announced. Names like “Kyerie Irving, Brandon Knight, Josh Selby, Doron Lamb and Joe Jackson highlight the star-studded rosters — otherwise known as the players Dick Vitale will go ga-ga over in the upcoming seasons.

Sometimes, The Road is Hard

I can’t help but smile when I see that picture of the Tennessee Volunteer in a sea of white, suffering while his team gets absolutely smashed by the Vanderbilt Commodores. It serves as a reminder that being a fan requires you being there for the thick AND the thin, something Bruce Pearl’s team experienced last night in Nashville.

While the game was entertaining enough — provided you weren’t rooting for the Volunteers — the picture stood out to me much more than any of the highlights or the post-game analysis. The image in question tells the story a whole lot better than a highlight of an A.J. Ogilvy dunk ever could.

Oh, and here’s an enlarged version, just so you get a better idea:

But there’s even more to it than that.
