The Nike Company has just introduced its new football which is to be used in some of the top leagues in Europe for the upcoming season. The ball is named the Total 90 Tracer and the company’s obviously calling it the world’s top performing football. It will be kicked about in the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, and Italy’s Serie A.
Nike stated the ball was designed with the help and input of some of the world’s top football players and teams and was meticulously engineered down to every detail including hand-sewn seams, surface texture and the bladder’s tension.
Chris Bond, who is Nike’s general manager of soccer equipment, said the top teams and leagues in the world demand the most innovative ball on the market and that’s what the company set out to do with the Total 90 Tracer. Bond added that as the sport gets faster all of the time and more competitive all around the globe the company had to come up with a ball that could stand up to the demands of today’s modern game and players right from the grassroots, amateur level to the pros.
Nike states that the ball is the most pinpoint accurate one in the world as it’s responsive and can be controlled easily in all situations of a game. Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero tried it out and stated that a great ball makes a huge difference to players and teams as it can potentially affect the outcome of games. Aguero added that he could shoot the ball with confidence as he knew exactly where it was going to go at all times.
Nike said this is because the ball comes with a five-layer casing and the way it’s made improves touch, which allows players to have maximum control over the ball and where it goes.
You can bet there will be a lot of pressure on Nike to have produced a ball as good as they say it is after the controversy that was stirred up in this summer’s World Cup with the Adidas Jabulani ball, which many players said was awful.
However, it’s ironic that football comes out with new balls on a constant basis, but won’t address crucial aspects of the game that need to be brought up to date, such as the introduction of video replay.
