Anderson Silva retained his UFC Middleweight Championship title by defeating Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Early on Belfort landed the only significant blows of the first round. Then Silva landed a most amazing KO.

Silva gave credit to Steven Seagal after the fight for teaching him that technique. Joe Rogan he has called over 1000 fights and has never seen anything like that. Silva’s win gives him a UFC record 8th title defense.

So Steven Seagal taught Silva the front snap kick? I learned that kick right after learning to tie my belt. The basics are often effective against high level opponents because they think they can’t be beat with white belt techniques.

Is that not just a jodan migeri from Shotokan karate? Is that really uncommon?

  3. carlos says:

is not that a front(push) thai kick?

  4. Traditionalist says:

As a 2nd Dan in Tang Soo Do, I’ve always found the snap (or front) kick to be the most effective against MMA enthusiasts. Due to the high positioning of their elbows, you can land a hit almost whenever you want.

It’s about time one of the pros figured it out. Or in this case, was taught a basic kick by a 7th Dan…

  5. TKD3rdbb says:

Not a push kick. More of an upward snap, hence knockout. Was sitting at a local MMA fight in the front row. Called for this kick, guy used it, and knocked him out. Agree with Traditionalist 100%.

  7. Hoser says:

How is this a front anything kick? He’s clearly coming off this rear leg.

  8. Symon says:

It’s a front kick because that’s where it goes, to the front.
