It wasn’t to be for Robin Soderling. He didn’t quite find the form necessary to defend his title in Bastad and lost the final to an inspired Almagro 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. The play was good but Almagro was stronger mentally and Soderling couldn’t find the right groove. Congrats to Almagro!

In Stuttgart the final only lasted little more than a set when Monfils had to forfeit the match because of right ankle injury at the score 6-2 1-2 in the Montanes favor. Congrats to Montanes.

After two Spanish clay court wins it is nice to see the hard court action start in Atlanta. The first day doesn’t really offer any interesting match-ups although we have players like Roddick, Isner, Blake (playing doubles with Isner) Hewitt, Fish and Ginepri in the draw. I predict Isner winning the title by beating Roddick in the final, but Fish might want to say something about that. We will have tennis betting odds and match predictions tomorrow

In Hamburg they also play tennis this week, but of course on clay. The draw sees Davydenko, Ferrer, Melzer, Almagro, Ferrero, Bellucci and Simon so the event is stronger on paper than the Atlanta tournament (Hamburg is a former Master series event, now ATP 500). Almagro will carry really good form so he is definitely a threat for the title. Otherwise Ferrer is a favorite as always and maybe even Melzer. I have my doubts about Davydenko as he didn’t look up to scratch in Stuttgart. But who knows?

Betting odds and match predictions coming up tomorrow. All the best until then!

By the way, nice to see the The Battle of Legends: Federer and Nadal post get so much attention and interesting comments. I will come back to that topic a little bit later, maybe to continue the discussion of why Nadal always pulls his pants out of his ass before a point (because it is uncomfortable to have them there!). If you readers have any other ideas why Nadal likes to adjust his boxers (feel free to be funny!) please post them here in the comments.
