Of all the greats who have played this game, Mickey Mantle and Willy Mays are the ONLY two that MAYBE could be competitive in todays game. The once hallowed HOF has become a joke full of hypocritical moralists. They should look in the mirror at the outrageous behavior of their time that was swept under the rug by butt kissing sports reporters with hero complexes. The harshest critics of todays players from this group of hypocrites could not even compete at todays level in their PRIMES! This group is a JOKE! Pete Rose, there may be an argument on that one. Bert Blyleven and Tony Oliva continually get snubbed for lack of numbers?!? What a joke! That Hall is filled with players with lesser numbers! Besides the fact that they have Hall worthy numbers, and were top perfomers in their time! ,,l,, (oo) ,,l,, to the Hall of Fame!!

point about a-rod is on point.

cobb, ruth and a lot of old-timerz would not even be able to play today because they’d be suspended for a litany of things like cobb racist attitudes, ruth recurring bouts with alcoholism, cap anson klan affiliations….billy martin and mantle were alkies of the 1st order. bud selig is coward and im glad he’s gone…if pete rose cant get in a-rod should not get in…the guy bonds hit his 755th against was suspended for using banned substances but was pitching in the bigs after that..what a bunch of hypocritical BS ..

a guy whose nickname was fat albert desont seem viable
candidate for banned mass building compound usagee..

that was his nickname coming into the bigs because he did and has to fight weight gain…

dount seriously that he needs anything more than some well cooked arroz con pollo & frijoles baby…

not a slur, elmer…..i love ‘em ..

and they will pack on the poundage…

he might become the games 2nd best all-aroung hitter after he’s done…

i think teddy ballgame was the best…

i think what he told the press was okay as most of them are just free lunch grubbin hack anyway…

Why is it that A-Rod has gotten off so easy with his steroid use. Its crazy how only certain people are getting ripped by the media while it seems others are getting a free pass. Yes, A-Rod was criticised when he came clean but now no one even links him with steroids anymore. One of these days he will probably be the new home run king. Im curious on how the Hall of Fame voters who wont vote for McGuire because he used steriods will vote when a sure Hall of Famer like A-Rod becomes eligible

This is getting old, folks.
I couldn’t care less who used what because many professional ballplayers have used many means (from greaseballs to doctored balls to psychological tricks ande now steroids) to cheat.

I feel more frustrated, with the fact that these “set-for-life-zillionaires” will go on strike, in a few more years, to demand even more money.
And the main problem is that we, the fans, keep going back to the games.
WE are the ones, who pay their salries. WE should be the ones saying, enough is enough!!!

I really do not understand why people keep talking about Steroid Era and that these players should not be in the HOF, cause who knows what Babe, Maris and those other players took for strenth their bodies? There was no testing in those times, plus the fields were huge. So what did they took to hit the ball that far so man

Hey Earl, where have you been the last 10 years or so? Bonds was crucified BEFORE any of these guys were. Every year he had the questions and players were coming out talking about how he was on steroids. If you think he hasn’t been crucified then you just haven’t been watching or are just trying to spread some more political BS…

Pujols may be offbase in calling out sportwriters for not asking serious questions about world events but he’s spot on in re-directing any McGwire questions to the source. If you want to take Mark at his word as Pujols seems to fine. If you doubt his word that’s about all you’ll get from Mark. Opinions don’t matter until or unless they keep this guy out of the HOF.

I think Pujols gave the correct response to the reporters. Sure we all may agree what has happened and it is not right look how many other problems we have in the world and no one cares so lets move on.

Players stick together, Period! However! no1 seems 2 want to call Barry Bonds out.
Talk about reverse discrimination. Bonds should be smeared in the media like all the others.

Did the Cards need to cough up $120 mill to keep Holliday when they were bidding against themselves? Probably not. That said, did they need to keep Holliday to make their lineup more attractive so that Pujols is more interested in remaining a Cardinal? Sure. If Pujols does test the market, it will be interesting to see how the Cards compare to the other “big market” franchises that can certainly outpay the Cards.
