Strikeforce honored Frank Shamrock in the middle of their “Fedor vs. Werdum” event last Saturday night, allowing Shamrock to thank all of the people that helped him throughout his career. And then Frank announced his retirement from MMA. There is no doubt that he could still compete, but he chose to walk away safely and with head held high.
Here are other fighters that should call it a career.
Ken Shamrock
The truth is that Shamrock was being beaten badly years ago. He’s only fought twice since 2006. To comeback at age 46 with such a layoff would not be wise. But he is. Shamrock will fight Pedro Rizzo in July.
Jens Pulver
Jens has lost 7 of his last 8 fights. He went from the UFC to the WEC and still couldn’t keep up with the breed of MMA fighter. Yet Jens is heading back in the cage to fight again in August.
Chuck Liddell
Dana White and a slew of The Iceman’s fans fear for his health. Several times during the last season of “The Ultimate Fighter” it was hard to decipher what Chuck was saying. But the latest news has Chuck sounding like he wants to fight again. Don’t do it.
Mark Coleman
The Godfather of Ground and Pound is 45 years old and has lost 3 of his last 4 fights. He’s just 3-5 since 2004. But Coleman wants to continue to battle. He looks as if he gasses very easily at 205.
Cro Cop was savagely beaten by Junior Dos Santos. He was roughed up badly against Pat Barry, even in victory. He now says he’s too old for this. The mental aspect of that statement is enough to know that Cro Cop should call it a career.

Cro Cop is the only go to make it into the 3rd round with Junior Dos Santos. I think that says a lot, considering JDS will be the UFC HW champion soon enough. He’s the real deal.
While I can’t say that I disagree that Coleman should probably call it a day, his last couple fights have been pretty entertaining – Bonnar & Couture were both fun matches to watch and if he puts up that much of a contest, I wouldn’t mind seeing him again. I’d certainly prefer seeing him fight again rather than the Ice Man.
I totally agree with every fighter on this list.
What about Kevin Randleman, Tito Ortiz, Gary Goodridge, Pedro Rizzo, and the list goes on and on and on. Ortiz gets overlooked the most, this guy has a completely lab fabricated neck and spine and has looked terrible, his massive head has saved him from beign KTFO like Chuck.
what are you fucking dumb? Cro Cop’s last fight was to prove you fuck heads that hes not too old for mma.
I think its hard to say who can and who cant continue. In terms of brain damage its the luck of the draw, Some guys will get dementia after a short career while some will get it only after a string of bad beatings or ko’s. Guys like Wandy silva , Keith Jardine and James Thompson have taken alot of hits to the head and it will be interesting to see how they are affected compared to boxers who have had similar numbers of fights.
Crocop is the only person who can say that Crocop should retire. While the mental game isn’t as solid as other fighters, he showed lots of new kicks vs barry and was actually training using a sparring partner for once, not to mention hes the only person to go deep with JDS, and JDS couldn’t KO him. Crocop is good to go.
I think Tito should GTFO, he’s high on pain meds talking about winning the belt before his contract is up, I can’t see him winning a single round against a single top 10 LHW.
