2012 NFL Predictions & Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4

With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2012 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will look to bounce back from being bounced out of the playoffs by Tim Tebow.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Last year’s record: 12-4.

Vegas Over/Under on 2012 Regular Season Wins: 10

First four games:
Sep 9 @Denver 8:20 pm
Sep 16 N.Y. Jets 4:25 pm
Sep 23 @Oakland 4:25 pm
Week 4 BYE
Oct 7 Philadelphia 1:00 pm

The Steelers start with chances at revenge against Tebow’s new team and old team, and an early bye will probably help them against Michael Vick and the Eagles. I see a 3-1 start for Pittsburgh.

Second four games:
Oct 11 @Tennessee 8:20 pm
Oct 21 @Cincinnati 8:20 pm
Oct 28 Washington 1:00 pm
Nov 4 @N.Y. Giants 4:25 pm

The short week might set the Steelers up for a letdown in Tennessee, and the visit to the Giants in Jersey could also be tough. Still, three more wins is likely for a 6-2 first half.

First four games of the second half:

Nov 12 Kansas City 8:30 pm
Nov 18 Baltimore 8:20 pm
Nov 25 @Cleveland 1:00 pm
Dec 2 @Baltimore 4:25 pm

The Steelers got swept by the Ravens last year and that cost them the division and a first-round bye. This year I think they can get at least a split and a 9-3 record heading into the last four weeks of the season.

Last four games:

Dec 9 San Diego 1:00 pm
Dec 16 @Dallas 4:25 pm
Dec 23 Cincinnati 1:00 pm
Dec 30 Cleveland 1:00 pm

There will probably be some close games in most o fthese but again the Steelers should be able to take three of four to end the year 12-4.
