With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2012 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: Reggie Bush and the Miami Dolphins, who will try to climb back to relevance.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
Last year’s record: 6-10
Vegas Over/Under on 2012 Regular Season Wins: 7
First four games:
Sep 9 @Houston 1:00 pm
Sep 16 Oakland 1:00 pm
Sep 23 N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm
Sep 30 @Arizona 4:05 pm
The name Ryan Tannehill doesn’t strike fear in anyone, but then neither did Andy Dalton last season. If the Dolphins can pull a Week 1 upset in Houston, maybe they could go on a run — but they also started 0-7 last season before winning six of their last nine. I only see a slight improvement this year and a 1-3 September record.
Second four games:
Oct 7 @Cincinnati 1:00 pm
Oct 14 St. Louis 1:00 pm
Week 7 BYE
Oct 28 @N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm
Nov 4 @Indianapolis 1:00 pm
The Dolphins were just 2-6 on the road last season, but most of the games in this stretch look close to toss-ups. Let’s say they beat the Rams at home and win one of the road games, that gives Miami a 3-5 first half.
First four games of the second half:
Nov 11 Tennessee 1:00 pm
Nov 15 @Buffalo 8:20 pm
Nov 25 Seattle 1:00 pm
Dec 2 New England 1:00 pm
Miami’s November schedule is pretty soft, but I think the Dolphins will struggle even against mediocre teams. Three more losses and Miami is close to irrelevance at 4-8 with four to play.
Last four games:
Dec 9 @San Francisco 4:05 pm
Dec 16 Jacksonville 1:00 pm
Dec 23 Buffalo 1:00 pm
Dec 30 @New England 1:00 pm
The Dolphins won’t beat the 49ers in San Francisco, but should be able to beat the Jaguars whose only road win last season was against the 2-14 Colts. Miami will win against the Bills and lose in Foxboro to match last year’s 6-10 record.
