With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2012 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. We conclude with Blaine Gabbert and the Jacksonville Jaguars, who’ll try to make it back to the postseason for the first time since 2007.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Last year’s record: 5-11
Vegas Over/Under on 2012 Regular Season Wins: 5.5
First four games:
Sep 9 @Minnesota 1:00 pm
Sep 16 Houston 1:00 pm
Sep 23 @Indianapolis 1:00 pm
Sep 30 Cincinnati 4:05 pm
The Jaguars were actually 4-4 at home last season, but two of those losses were to the Texans and Bengals. Figure on that happening again, but if the Jaguars should split their first two road games for a 1-3 September record.
Second four games:
Oct 7 Chicago 4:05 pm
Week 6 BYE
Oct 21 @Oakland 4:25 pm
Oct 28 @Green Bay 1:00 pm
Nov 4 Detroit 1:00 pm
Maybe the Jags pull an upset on the Bears or Lions — they did beat the Ravens at home in Week 7 last season after all. Still they should lose another three games in this stretch for a 2-6 first half record — just like last season.
First four games of the second half:
Nov 8 Indianapolis 8:20 pm
Nov 18 @Houston 1:00 pm
Nov 25 Tennessee 1:00 pm
Dec 2 @Buffalo 1:00 pm
The Jags probably win one of these two division home games, but lose the two road games for a 3-9 record going into the final four weeks of the season.
Last four games:
Dec 9 N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm
Dec 16 @Miami 1:00 pm
Dec 23 New England 1:00 pm
Dec 30 @Tennessee 1:00 pm
Jacksonville’s best chance for a win here seems like the trip to Miami, or of facing a team that doesn’t care because its playoff fate is already decided. That spells a 4-12 record, slightly worse than last season.
