2012 NFL Predictions & Preview: Arizona Cardinals 7-9

With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2012 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: Larry Fitzgerald and the Arizona Cardinals, who’ll try to build on the momentum of winning seven of their last nine games last season.

ARIZONA CARDINALS

Last year’s record: 8-8

Vegas Over/Under on 2012 Regular Season Wins: 7

First four games:

Sep 9 Seattle 4:25 pm
Sep 16 @New England 1:00 pm
Sep 23 Philadelphia 4:05 pm
Sep 30 Miami 4:05 pm

The Cardinals didn’t win two games until Week 9 last season, but were an impressive 6-2 at home (with four of those six wins coming in overtime). Starting with three of their first four at home should Arizona get a better start out of the gate. It looks like they’ll be 2-2 at the end of September.

Second four games:

Oct 4 @St. Louis 8:20 pm
Oct 14 Buffalo 4:05 pm
Oct 21 @Minnesota 1:00 pm
Oct 29 San Francisco 8:30 pm

The Cardinals edged the 49ers at home last December, but the Niners had the division virtually wrapped up at that point. Two more losses in October will put the Cards at a respectable-ish 4-4 halfway through the campaign.

First four games of the second half:

Nov 4 @Green Bay 1:00 pm
Week 10 BYE
Nov 18 @Atlanta 1:00 pm
Nov 25 St. Louis 4:25 pm
Dec 2 @N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm

Even with the bye it’s hard to see the Cardinals winning at Atlanta, or really any of these three road games. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them upset the Jets, but I’d count on only one win and a 5-7 record after 12 games.

Last four games:

Dec 9 @Seattle 4:25 pm
Dec 16 Detroit 4:05 pm
Dec 23 Chicago 4:25 pm
Dec 30 @San Francisco 4:25 pm

I would again expect the 49ers to have the West wrapped up before the final game of the regular season. The Cards will probably find a way to win two of these games and regress just a bit with a 7-9 record this year.
