With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: the St. Louis Rams, who were a game away from the playoffs last year and should have a decent chance in the mediocre NFC West.
St. Louis Rams
Last year’s record: 7-9.
Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 7.5.
First four games:
Sept. 11 Philadelphia, 1 p.m.
Sept. 19 at N.Y. Giants, 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 25 Baltimore, 4:05 p.m.
Oct. 2 Washington, 1 p.m.
That’s a pretty brutal opening three games — it’s hard to see the Rams better than 1-3 after four games.
Second four games:
Oct. 9 BYE
Oct. 16 at Green Bay, 1 p.m.
Oct. 23 at Dallas, 4:15 p.m.
Oct. 30 New Orleans, 1 p.m.
Nov. 6 at Arizona, 4:15 p.m.
Even with the bye week, I can’t see the Rams beating the defending champs at Lambeau. An upset in Dallas could be possible, but this looks like another 1-3 stretch and a disappointing 2-6 midseason mark.
First four games of the second half:
Nov. 13 at Cleveland, 1 p.m.
Nov. 20 Seattle, 4:05 p.m.
Nov. 27 Arizona, 1 p.m.
Dec. 4 at San Francisco, 4:15 p.m.
If the Rams are going to make a run in a weak division, here’s where the schedule gives them a good opportunity, but I still see probably only two wins here and a 4-8 record after 12 games.
Last four games:
Dec. 12 at Seattle, 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 18 Cincinnati, 1 p.m.
Dec. 24 at Pittsburgh, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 San Francisco, 1 p.m.
Two more wins down the stretch and the Rams finish 6-10, a game worse than last year — that seems about right.
