With the NFL regular season fast approaching, we at SportsUntapped are taking our crystal balls out of storage and examining each team’s full 16-game schedule to prognosticate how the 2011 season will play out. We’ll look at all 32 teams and reveal each one’s final record. Next up: Reggie Bush and the Miami Dolphins, who will have to play awfully well to compete in the same division as the Jets and Patriots.
Miami Dolphins
Last year’s record: 7-9.
Vegas Over/Under on 2011 Regular Season Wins: 7.5.
First four games:
Sept. 12 New England, 7 p.m.
Sept. 18 Houston, 4:15 p.m.
Sept. 25 at Cleveland, 1 p.m.
Oct. 2 at San Diego, 4:15 p.m.
The Dolphins will do well to win two of the first four, since they’ll be heavy underdogs in their opener against the Patriots and on the road in Week 4 against the Chargers.
Second four games:
Oct. 9 BYE
Oct. 17 at N.Y. Jets, 8:30 p.m.
Oct. 23 Denver, 1 p.m.
Oct. 30 at N.Y. Giants, 1 p.m.
Nov. 6 at Kansas City, 1 p.m.
Monday night Dolphins-Jets games are historically crazy, but even with the bye week, it would be a major upset if Miami could pull it off. It’s more likely they’ll beat the Broncos at home and no one else for a 3-5 midseason record.
First four games of the second half:
Nov. 13 Washington, 1 p.m.
Nov. 20 Buffalo, 1 p.m.
Nov. 24 at Dallas, 4:15 p.m.
Dec. 4 Oakland, 1 p.m.
Here the schedule gets pretty kind to MIami with three of four at home and four straight against teams with losing records last season. Give the Dolphins three wins here to get back to .500 at 6-6.
Last four games:
Dec. 11 Philadelphia, 1 p.m.
Dec. 18 at Buffalo, 1 p.m.
Dec. 24 at New England, 1 p.m.
Jan. 1 N.Y. Jets, 1 p.m.
The Dolphins may play some meaningful games the last four weeks of the season, but I can’t see them winning more than one of them, giving them the same 7-9 record as last season.
