Preview: On January 10th, 2011 the BCS National Championship Game will be played in Glendale, Arizona. Two of the three teams with unbeaten records in BCS play will square off. The Oregon Ducks, out of the Pac Ten Conference, will take on the Auburn Tigers, out of the Southeastern Conference.
The Ducks will be the road team on the scoreboard for this game. Oregon is gunning for their first national title in school history. The Ducks led the nation in scoring; averaging just under 50 points per game. LaGarrette James was the top rusher in the nation; averaging 152.9 yards per game and 21 touchdowns. In his three games against ranked foes; James rushed for 622 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Tigers finished sixth in scoring; averaging 42.7 points per game. Oregon’s quarterback Darron Thomas threw for over 2,500 yards and 28 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 492 yards and five touchdowns. Oregon’s defense also was impressive through most of the season; as they ranked in the top 20 in the nation; allowing just 18.4 points per game.
Auburn is led by Heisman winner Cam Newton. Newton rushed for over 1,400 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also passing for 28 touchdowns, with just 6 interceptions. Auburn is looking to give the Southeastern Conference their fifth straight national title. Last season, the Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Texas Longhorns in the national title game. This will be the first time Oregon and Auburn have meet on the football field.
My Betting Picks: In an epic national title game, we look for this to come down to the final possession. Oregon gets a late touchdown and wins the game 41-38.
