The pairings for the six Foursomes matches in the second session of the 2010 Ryder Cup were announced shortly before the first session of Fourballs matches ended Saturday morning. Each team’s full 12-man roster will be playing in the second session under a revised schedule caused by the lengthy weather delays on Friday. There is still hope play will be completed by Sunday evening.
Foursomes? Yes, please. Here are your matchups:
Match 1: Jimenez/Hanson vs. Woods/Stricker. The veteran Spaniard and his Swedish partner sat out the first session, while Stricker and Woods played 18 holes to win their first session match against Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher. This match will actually start fourth since Woods and Stricker were finishing up their first session match.
Match 2: Molinari/Molinari vs. Z. Johnson/Mahan. The brothers from Italy, the other Johnson and Hunter Mahan all sat out the first session.
Match 3: Westwood/Kaymer vs. Furyk/Fowler. Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer got Europe the first point of the Ryder Cup, defeating Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson 3 &2. FedExCup champion Jim Furyk and rookie Rickie Fowler were on the sidelines for the first session.
Match 4: Harrington/Fisher vs. Mickelson/D. Johnson. Will Mickelson and Johnson fare better than they did in the first round? Will Phil improve on his 2-10-3 mark in his last 15 Ryder Cup matches? Controversial pick Harrington was paired with Luke Donald in the first session, losing 3 & 2 to Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton. Ross Fisher was paired with Ian Poulter in the first session, losing 2 up to Stricker & Tiger.
Match 5: Poulter/Donald vs. Watson/Overton. Watson and Overton were impressive in their first session victory and will attempt to keep their momentum going.
Match 6: McIlroy/McDowell vs. Cink/Kuchar. These four players met in the first session’s second match. The team from Northern Ireland staged an impressive comeback Saturday morning to come back from 2 down thru 12 and halve the match. The first match was an exciting back and forth affair, with each side winning five holes.
